Use a primer or undercoat when painting wood and metal surfaces. This will help the top coat stick to the surface.
Painting with a primer also helps your paint last longer without retouching and can also reduce the number of coats you need. Usually, you’ll only need one coat of primer for it to be effective.
Primer isn’t only effective when painting wood or metal. In fact, we recommend using a primer unless your walls are in excellent condition, you’re painting over a similarly coloured paint, or your new paint already has primer in it. Otherwise, prepping your walls, ceilings or furniture with a coat of primer is a great way to achieve a professional, long-lasting finish.
